The fortySix is a Neo-emo Soul band founded in 2017 by vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Karan Master. Their unique sound combines the melodic heart of pop punk/emo with groove and feel that retains identifiable characteristics of neo-soul. The bittersweet euphoria of their guitar led sound is accompanied by Karan’s playful yet frank deliverance that is prevalent in the atmosphere of their performance.

Building on the successes of Karan Master’s past compositions, The fortySix launched with their debut debut single, ‘46’ on the 25th January 2018, which gained momentum via Bandcamp, Spotify and iTunes, as well as through shows in February 2018 at Southampton venues ‘The Stage Door’ and ‘Heartbreakers’. In March, while working on a second single, The fortySix put out ‘Movements’, a surprise release created in response to an Instagram challenge to write, record, and put out a song in a day. The fortySix made their debut in London in April 2018, fueled by the success of their track, with gigs at the infamous ‘Red Room’ in Ealing, and at The Oblique Life’s institutional monthly night, ‘Sunday Night Live’.

Their second single, ‘Are You Mine’ was released digitally on the 31st May 2018. The single saw a significant rise in the bands Facebook and Instagram following. Karan has since collaborated with Soul Pop artist Cloudy Galvez and shared the stage with her supporting artists such as Dodgy and Toploader. The two spent a few months gigging the UK with their joint band which featured Jono Powell (Bass) and Az Khan (Drums). With eight gigs over the following months, The fortySix spent this period crafting their signature live sound, and creating their first official piece of merch, an exclusive ‘Are You Mine’ USB featuring their entire release history.

Their third single ‘Summer Now’ was released on the 29th August 2018 on Spotify and iTunes, with an accompanying music video. Rising through the clouded seas, The fortySix are on their way to being the first quartet to coin the genre, ‘Neo-emo Soul’, a genre that intertwines jazz chordal harmonics, funk grooves and soulful vocals whilst keeping the melodic heart of emo and pop-punk. Their fourth release, ‘Frank Needs Gsus’, was released last November exclusively on Youtube, representing the culmination of all their work over the last two years.

February 23rd marked the release of ‘Trouble’, their latest EP, which is gaining traction on all major streaming platforms. With dedicated ambition and the desire to succeed, Karan is constantly recording new music, shaping and developing his skills. His goals with The fortySix are to reignite passion for live improvisational performances and to create a sub culture that brings together fans of pop punk, indie, math rock, funk, jazz, Neo-soul and introduces them to new elements of other genres as well as to communicate his perspective and story lyrically.
