After a tour of the country and journeying up into Scotland the organisers finally returned to London… A group of Songwriting Judges assembled in Covent Garden at one of Caffe Nero’s ultra chic venues to assess the standard of entrants into the second London Heat of UK Unsigned Songwriter Competition which is  being held in towns and cities across the UK to find  #TheNExtBigSongwriter.

Selected from over a thousand entries, these are just a few of the highest standard songwriting entrants – from a total of just 72 who were shortlisted for the heats.

Organised by Songwriting Academy Principal and Chief Mentor Martin Sutton in conjunction with Caffe Nero, Yamaha and charities Nordoff Robbins and Stand Up to Cancer – the contest seeks to discover the most talented songwritiers whose abilities still remain comparatively unknown and unappreciated by a mass audience and put a spotlight firmly upon them. The prize for the best of the bunch, however, is not just a spotlight – YAMAHA MUSIC have generously donated instruments from their catalogue of products worth several thousand pounds and The Songwriting Academy is including one of their coveted Platinum Menbership Program places which will entitle the Winner to a 1 Year fully supported Songwriting development and Mentorship program giving access to some of the industry’s most celebrated and respected Multi-Platinum Selling Hit Songwriters .

Looking like they mean Business – but a nicer bunch of people – you couldn’t wish to meet

And Multi-Platinum Selling Mega-HIT Songwriters were out in Force last night as the Judging panel assembled – Nashville Songwriter and International performer Kim Richey flew in from the USA to join Jez Ashurst, Christopher Neil and Martin Sutton (Songwriting Academy Principal) who, between them are multi-platinum selling songwriters with hits in over 50 countries for artists including Celine Dion, Tina Turner, Leona Lewis, Mike and the Mechanics and many other X-Factor and International Headline artists.

The evening was an unqualified success as the contest – supported by Songwriting Academy20161003_193428 Alumni, members of the public and, an appearance by celebrity and actor Tim Vincent (Access Hollywood -NBC) -reached its second night in London having travelled around the country from Brighton to Bristol Birmingham Liverpool Edinburgh and back to London (covering over 1100 miles in total – according to Mr Sutton’s vehicle management system)

img_20161003_214305THE WINNER of this Heat  Winner Jim Delbridge from Guernsey has spent years crafting his songs and an album which has already received recognition by the BBC in a previously published article, however, last night Jim also caught the attention of the judging panel who have elevated him to the Semi-finals later this month. Jim will go on to compete against the winners of the other UK heats .. still taking place in Croydon and London venues this week.. for a place in the Grand Final which will be hosted at The Piano Works Farringdon at the end of the month.

All proceeds from the contest are being donated to the charities Nordoff Robbins (which promotes Music as form of therapy) and Stand Up to Cancer with the venues provided courtesy of Caffe Nero and – Yamaha Music and The Songwriting Academy donating prizes with a total value of around £7000 !!
